Dinner Time!

Hey folks!

Back from a good day of fishing at the ol Kings River!

As you can see, I have dinner and a sunburn XD I'm tellin you folks, Troutninjatv.com. Dude knows his trout. This will probably be my last fishin post for a while, cause really, how much can you post about it aside from "Look at my fishies!!!". I'm no instructor, which is why I'm referring you to the trout ninja, I'll let him give you the tips he's given me!

Trout fry!

Hey folks, rested up and ready to go trout fishing again tomorrow morning!

And to you doubters, heres some vids from a few trips ago, caught with tips from troutninjatv.com

And it tasted gooooooood lol. I'm going out tomorrow morning so maybe I'll have enough caught to bring home and fry up. I don't like bringing trout home unless I have enough to feed the wife and kid too, that way its a full meal and I feel the fish are used well. Frying up one or two small ones is nice for one person, but it seems to me like a waste, since those smallfrys could grow up to be lunkers that could feed the whole family.

I also do this thing I call Zero Budget Mods, kinda a combination of customization and re-purposing items. It's an exercise in improvisation and can apply to any aspect of life, you just gotta be creative.
Work with what you have right? I'll post up my ZBM bass mod soon, and yeah, this time I actually am talking about Bass Guitar :)

Trophy Bass!

That is, if there's a trophy for smallest bass EVAR!

That's right, I caught that bad boy! I think the picture even makes it look bigger than it was, if thats possible hahhahaha! We caught more and much bigger, but this was my favorite one of the day. I'm sunburned and tired so that's all you get for today.

Going trout fishing Tuesday, hopefully I catch enough to bring home to fry! Happy Sunday all, have a good day!

Fishing Time!!

Hey everybody! (hi dr. nick!)
No, my name isn't nick, but I play one on T.V.

ANYWAYS! Taking a break from the Papercraft to bring you a little FISHING TIME FUN!! Going bass fishing (that's the one with 4 strings right?) with my dad and cousin in the morning, which will be great! But for the blog purposes I'll focus on what I normally do during the week, which is Trout Fishin!! Got a site to reference, if anyone is reading, go check out The TroutNinja!

This goofy guy got me started on the right track when I started trout fishing a while back. Didn't have much time for bass fishing anymore (which I've done for 20 years now) because of travel time and needing to be within cell range, but there's a river running right through my area and I figured, wth, I'll go trout fishin! I've done pretty well on his tips, and I've even gotten some of his super secret bait to field test, so you guys would do well to watch all his videos!

Anyways, so far in my trout fishing area (Kings River Ca) I've noticed two things, fishermen lie alot (big news huh) and trout like garlic. I've caught more trout off Garlic Power Bait than anything else.

I want to get some rainbow-garlic, but for now this is the kind I can find. I get bites on it at the stocked Woodward Park ponds (grass carp and catfish?) and at any spot I go to on the Kings river. Wal-mart stop carrying it, but I found that Doyles market (on the way up to pine-flat) carries it. Also you can order it and all the varieties online (click here).

Another one I've found to work well lately, rooster-tail spinners. These things get the fish chasing your hooks, if not biting them lol. I've literally watched trout chase these things all the way up to shore.

A good tip for you if you plan on eating the fish you catch, don't bother freezing them, they turn to mush when you thaw them out. If you don't catch enough to fry, let em go. You might try taking the first few you catch home to clean and cook just as practice though, cleaning trout isn't the hardest, but it aint the easiest either, it takes some practice. You can find plenty of videos on der Youtube.com to teach you how.

As far as cooking, I prefer to fillet and deep fry, but you can grill or bake as well. I take the classic method, cornmeal-salt-pepper, and kick it up a notch with some Cajun seasoning or Tajun (local mexican chile-lime seasoning). drizzle with lemon juice or just chow down. My favorite part is the tail, cause fried fish tails are better than chips!

That's all I got for today, maybe tomorrow will bring some pics and vids of some fish catching action, but more than likely will bring a sunburn and an early bedtime! Seeya next time kiddies!

Papercraft Supplies

Hey folks!

Back for another post, short one about the supplies needed for doing papercraft!

Like I said before, papercraft is a very cheap hobby aside from printer ink, and requires very few materials to get started. Basic stuff like paper, glue and scissors are all you need at a minimum, but other cheap tools can help make your models look even better, and make it easier to make them as well.
This is my kit, scissors, glue, retractable exacto knife with extra blades, tweezers, toothpick, glue palette.

I recommend not using a retractable exacto knife, as they are more expensive and tend to break, however you would do well to get an ergonomic handled exacto so your hand doesn't get tired on those larger or more intricate models. You can find these for around $5 at almost any store, and replacement blades usually come in 5 to 10packs for #11 blades at a around $2.50. Craft stores will have more selection, but also higher prices, I find office supply stores are a papercrafters best friend. Office Max is my favorite place, but that might be because I have one about 2 minutes drive from my house.

Any type of paper glue will do, I use the RoseArt school glue because I can find it for less than $1 for a large bottle, which will last for a long time.

The toothpicks (I have a "cuticle stick" my wife had laying around but regular toothpicks are better) are for applying the glue precisely and evenly so you get a good bond without soaking the paper into mush. They also help to get glue into tiny spaces for when your model is nearly finished. You can get a box of toothpicks for about 1$ as well.

Pair of scissors is self explanatory, any pair will do. The only thing I could say about them is try to get a good strong pair of thin scissors, you wont use them as much as the exacto knife, but for trimming and long straight lines you want a nice sharp thin bladed pair of scissors. Make sure to clean the blades often to avoid ripping and mucking up the paper. You can get a good pair for about 3-5$.

The "glue palette" I use is simple the clear disc protector that comes on a spindle of blank dvd's I bought to burn programs and movies to, you can use any piece of hard plastic you have laying around, or go to your local craft store and grab a palette like this for anywhere from 1-5$:

I found that one on Amazon.com for 1$ here.

Tweezers are an invaluable tool and if you don't buy anything else, I would get a good pair before any crafting you do. They help to make folds, creases, hold onto your models without smearing glue with your hands, grip your models delicately without crushing them, clamp small areas while the glue dries, etc. I haven't done even the simplest model without using a pair of tweezers. You can get a pair just about anywhere for $1.50 or less.

As for paper, you can get a ream of regular printer paper (500 sheets) for about 6$, cardstock (thicker paper) is better for most models because its stiffer and more durable and doesn't easily get soaked with glue, and costs about 10-15$.

Printer ink is the most expensive part of papercraft. My printer ink costs 27$ for the black cartridge and 42$ for the color cartridge, HOWEVER if you feel like taking the risk, you can get ink refill kits for dirt cheap online. I just ordered a black ink refill kit for 3$ on ebay which will refill my cartridge up to 3 times, and a color cartridge refill kit for 10$ that will refill up to 5 times. If you are going to go this route I would recommend reading up on refilling ink cartridges for your specific model of printer.

Lastly, Organization! It's no good to have all your supplies if you can't find them when you want them. This is the easiest part of the kit because all you have to do is find a box!
I use an old Hickory Farms box that was speedily emptied of its sausage and cheesey goodness Christmas day and it's served me well, you might want to use a shoebox, or even papercraft (or Origami) a box of your very own! You can see my supplies in there, plus a screwdriver which I'm not sure why its in there, and some of the pieces I haven't yet put on my ViVi model that I'm working on.

The price breakdown given today is made from real prices I've paid and found online while writing todays blog (so they are current), and I live in California, the land of overpriced EVERYTHING lol. Total price of supplies using standard paper and not including printer ink: $22. Remember, you can get this stuff one piece at a time too, and slowly build your kit as money allows.

Well that's it for today, I hope I helped someone out there and remember, all you really need is paper, scissors, and glue, so if you are broke, don't fret, I bet you can find an art teacher that would donate to your cause :)

Papercraft is fun!

Well hello ladies and Gentlemen, I'm pleased to meet you!

This is my first post so I'm going to go with what I've been doing most recently, which is Papercraft! I've found that it is a great hobby that requires almost no cash as long as you already have a PC and a printer, which I do.

First off, what is papercraft? Well, in short, its building models out of paper. From cube-figures to fully articulated, massive moving masterpieces! In long, its described here in this wiki page XD.

Here are a few of my starting models:

My first attempt, a failed Goomba, but the wife found a place for it on the kitchen wall.
Boo in a picture frame from the Mario games, it's supposed to "follow you around the room", but again it wasn't the best attempt.

Link (Zelda), an OMG,  and a Garlic from zOMG on gaiaonline.com. So far these are my best. The garlic was incredibly simple, the OMG a tad more complicated but not too hard, and Link was very fragile but taught me a lot about how papercraft works, especially since the instructions were in japanese.
I'm currently working on ViVi, the Black Mage from FFVII, here are a few progress shots:

Next post I'll go over the materials needed to papercraft (which aren't many) and the costs etc, and whatever else I feel like talking about XD
Thanks for reading, subscribe, leave comments, click ads (apparently i can get money for that somehow lol), and I'll be back with another post soon!
